Print Photos From Your Phone

Most of the photos that matter live on a phone: the wedding, the dog, the view from the trip. Here's how to print one so it looks as good on the wall as it did on the screen.

We print every photograph in-house in Waiouru on Ilford fine art paper, and a person checks every file before it's printed. Prints start at $15.95 for A4, and framed prints at $39.90. We deliver throughout New Zealand.

How it works

  1. Upload the photo. Open the designer on your phone or computer and choose the photo. JPEG, PNG, TIFF and HEIC files up to 500 MB all work.
  2. Choose a size. Once your photo shows in the preview, the designer tells you how well it suits the size you've picked, and suggests a smaller size if it would print better there.
  3. Frame it, or don't. Add a frame and a mat, or order the print on its own. You see the price as you go.
  4. We check it, print it and send it. A person looks at every file before it's printed, and we'll contact you if something could be better. Prints are usually ready to dispatch in 2–5 working days; framed orders take 1–2 weeks, and larger orders can take longer.

How big can my photo go?

It depends on how many pixels the photo has. On most phones, open the photo and tap the info button () or swipe up: you'll see its size in megapixels (MP) or in pixels.

For a photo printed whole, without zooming in. "Excellent" and "Good" are the designer's own readings.
Your photo Excellent up to Good up to
12 MP (4032 × 3024 pixels)A4, 8×12"A3, 12×16"
24 MP (5712 × 4284 pixels)A3, 12×16"A2, 20×24"
48 MP (8064 × 6048 pixels)A2, 20×24"A1, 24×36"

"Good" still makes a strong print; "Excellent" holds the finest detail up close. If you zoom in to crop the photo, it has fewer pixels to work with, so the designer's reading drops and it may suggest a smaller size.

Use the original photo

  • Upload the photo itself, not a screenshot. A screenshot is only as big as your screen.
  • Got it in a message or from Facebook? Ask whoever took it for the original. Copies sent through messaging apps and social media are usually shrunk.
  • Photos from a photographer: download the full-size file from your gallery rather than saving the picture from the web page.
  • iPhone photos (HEIC) are fine. On an iPhone they upload and preview as usual. Some computers can't show a HEIC preview: the photo still uploads, and we check it before we print.

Questions

Will a photo from my phone look good printed?

Yes, at the right size. Use the table above, or upload it and let the designer tell you. If it's not right for the size you've picked, it suggests one that is.

Which paper should I choose?

Choose "Recommended for You" and our print specialists will pick the best of our nine Ilford papers for the photograph. The paper doesn't change the price.

Do you fix my photo?

We check every file before it's printed. If something could be better, we'll contact you before we print.

Can I print several photos?

Yes. Add each one to your basket with its own size, paper and frame, and order up to 20 of each print.
